Wren Homework

Children in Wren Class will receive their Little Wandle reading book each week. We ask that they read this book at least three times at home to build fluency and confidence. Additional reading time can be spent enjoying stories read aloud to them by family members.

Each week, children will also be set:

  • 1 Doodle Maths activity
  • 1 Doodle English activity

Wren Term 1 2025-26 Update

The first few weeks of term have been full of energy, creativity, and learning across all our year groups—and we couldn’t be prouder of how everyone has settled in!

Years 1 and 2 have been working incredibly hard around the much-loved book I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen. The children explored rich vocabulary, learnt all about adjectives, and even created their own characters to join the story! To top it off, they designed and made their own fabulous versions of Rice Hats—each one bursting with imagination and flair.

Reception (Year R) have had a fantastic time settling into life at Great Wishford. From exploring magnets to diving into fun activities in Provision, their enthusiasm has been infectious!

We’ve also loved hearing directly from the children about their experiences:

“I’ve been so happy and excited with my writing!” — Imogen

“I loved creating my own hat.” — Owen

“I was so excited to write for the first time in Year 1.” — Clementine

“PE has been amazing—I love exploring and moving around!” — Jayce  “Learning about Maths has been really fun!” — George

It’s been a brilliant beginning, and we’re excited to see all the wonderful things our children will achieve this term.

Wrens Term 2 Update

This Term in Our Class – Full of Energy and Excitement!

The past few weeks have been buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and festive cheer! Here’s what we’re diving into:

Reception – Fairytales and Early Reading
Our Reception children are exploring play through classic fairytales like Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and The Gingerbread Man. They’ve been acting out stories, building scenes in their play areas, and using rich language to bring characters to life. We’re now are still developing our phonic knowledge—learning about digraphs and practicing blending sounds to build words. Their enthusiasm for reading is wonderful to see!

Year 1 and 2:

Design & Technology – Moving Monsters
Our Moving Monsters project is in full swing! The children are designing and building creatures that move using linkages and levers. It’s amazing to see their ideas come to life—every monster is unique and full of personality!

Geography – Hot and Cold Places
We’re exploring the world’s hottest deserts and coldest polar regions. The children are learning about the animals and people who live in these extreme environments and asking brilliant questions about how they survive.

Science – Exploring Materials
In Science, we’re investigating different materials and their properties. The children are testing, sorting, and discovering why certain materials are perfect for specific jobs. Lots of hands-on fun and fascinating findings!

Nativity & Christmas Preparations
Our Nativity rehearsals have begun, and the excitement is building! The children are practicing their lines and songs with enthusiasm. We’re also starting to make festive crafts and decorations to bring Christmas magic into our classroom.

We can’t wait to share more with you soon—especially our Nativity performance! Thank you for your support!Img 1346Img 1354Img 1358
