Kingfisher Class - for Years 3 and 4

Children in Kingfisher Class are expected to complete the following each week:

• TTRS
• 10 minutes of reading each day (or this can be done in longer sessions over the weekend)
• 1 spelling sheet a week (first one due out the week of the 14/09/26)

In Kingfisher Class, we have an incredibly exciting term ahead!

In English, Kingfisher Class are currently focusing on key punctuation and grammar skills to build a strong foundation for our upcoming Writing unit. The children will soon be using these skills to create a descriptive piece of writing inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic book, George's Marvellous Medicine. Alongside this, our reading sessions are focused on developing vital fluency skills to help everyone read with expression, accuracy and confidence. For our daily story time, we are diving into the delightful world of Paddington and our classroom is already filled with laughter as we follow the funny mishaps and adventures of everyone’s favourite bear.

In Maths, we are delving into the world of numbers as we master place value. We are exploring the relationship between thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones, which provides the children with a solid foundation for all of our mathematical challenges this year. Meanwhile, our scientific minds are learning all about the human body. The children have already had a fantastic time learning the scientific names of the bones in our skeleton through interactive and fun activities.

In History, we are stepping back in time to explore how children's lives have changed throughout history, focusing particularly on the contrasting and challenging lives of Victorian and Tudor children. Over in Art, creativity is flowing as Kingfisher Class develop essential drawing skills by experimenting with different techniques, mark making and shading to bring our sketches to life. Finally, in Religious Education, we are exploring the Christian Creation story, looking closely at how this narrative influences the way Christians think about and care for the world around them.

It has been an incredibly busy and exciting couple of weeks in Kingfisher Class. In Maths, we have been exploring numbers by playing interactive maths games to practice partitioning. History came alive in the classroom this week when we were visited by a Tudor child. The children turned into brilliant investigative journalists, interviewing our guest to discover exactly what life was like for Tudor children. In RE, the children have been reflecting on the Christian Creation story by collaborating on a beautiful, large-scale piece of artwork. Every member of the class contributed to the artwork, focusing on the things that Christians believe God created and discussing what makes our world such a wonderful place. 

The children have been having a wonderful time with Mrs Shillito and Miss Foster while Miss Marks is away on the Year 5/6 residential.

Please note there is no spelling homework this week due to Miss Marks being away but the TTS and reading homework remains the same.
